Mental Health Awareness for Youths in 2024
Youths are the energy of a nation. Youths are the pillars of the nation. Today, there are 1.2 billion young persons aged 15 to 24 years in the world. The numbers of youths represent 16 percent of the global population. UN report says by 2030 the target date for the Sustainable Development Goals that make up the 2030 Agenda, the number of youth is projected to have grown by 7 percent, to nearly 1.3 billion.
Who is youth?
The United Nations, for statistical purposes, defines “youth”, as those persons between the ages of 15 to 24 years, without prejudice to others.
What is the Concept of youth?
Youth refers to young age. It is the time of life when one is young. The word youth can also mean the time between childhood and adulthood but it can also highlight one’s peak, in terms of health, energy and activeness in the every aspects of life. Youth are the central characters of nation. They are educated positive force.
Youth are energetic citizens for the nation. They carry the nation. They are the developers. It is an important stage of life for building skills, having new knowledge, good health, active public life and full of potentialities.
What is the role of youth?
Youth have energetic feelings and strong determination to complete every aspects of development. They have keen interest to learn innovative ideas and they have capacity to fight against every problem in the society. They can bring social reform. They can play vital role to achieve nation’s goal. In every field like sports, education, science, technologies, music and many more, youth is needed. The youth of a nation determine the future of a nation.
Why youth are needed to address?
A recent UN study shows that 70 percent youth are feeling annoyed because they do not have enough space to express themselves in public debates nor can they voice their concerns and ideas. Youth are energy. If energy is lost, everything is lost. Every country must implement plan where youth can engage in discussion and debate. Youth are full of potential. They are future of a nation and all the stake holders should pay serious attention to them. They need our help. The government needs to believe in the youth of the nation and invest in their future.
How youth are affected in today’s world?
Every country should observe the current situation of young men and women. There are many problems that affect youth’s life. They have two face expensive life, unemployment, poverty, uncertain future and crime.
Mental health and youth:
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problem in youth, affecting about 25 percent of youth between 13 to 18 years old. Depression is also another mental health problem 20 percent of adolescents experiencing a depression. According to data 50 percent of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75 percent by age 24.
Common mental health disorders found in youth include anxiety, depression, stigma, abuse, trauma or neglect. Unfortunately in recent years there are significant increases in certain mental health disorders in youth, including depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation. Many factors shape the mental health of adolescents. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youths.
