Mental health refers to psychological, emotional and social well-being. The World Health Organization defines mental illness as a condition characterized by difficulties in managing normal and everyday stressors, and hinders daily, family and community participation.
The interrelationship between mind, body, and society affects many aspects of health that we understand as psychosocial conditions. If there is no harmony between the mind, body and society, then the mind becomes depressed, sad, feels unloved and respected, disoriented and depressed, etc., which we know as psychosocial problems.
If these problems persist, serious mental problems may also appear. Mental problems are either genetic or social. Some are due to biological causes such as brain disorders.
Some things that affect mental health
Although many things affect mental health, some of the main ones are as follows:
Before and after delivery:
Pregnant women may experience symptoms of anxiety, and after delivery, hormonal changes and the increased role of the mother increase the risk of psychosocial problems. A woman's marital relationship, family ties and social support affect it. Most of the women have mild psychosocial problems (maternity blues) and want to cry quickly, have difficulty sleeping, and get irritable.
Early childhood upbringing:
Early childhood experiences, upbringing, nutritional stimulation, learning, opportunities for interaction, negative behaviors influence mental health even when you are a parent. When parents with mental health problems raise children, they are more likely to raise children in an environment of neglect, abuse, abuse. As a result, the same cycle repeats itself in their lives.
Domestic violence:
Gender and sexual violence in the family due to various reasons, drug and alcohol abuse, quarrels and behavioral problems affect the mental health of family members including children.
Poverty:
Lack of or no ability to meet the family's daily minimum needs (food, clothing, shelter) creates a stressful family environment and affects mental health.
Stressful Work Area:
If parents are forced to work in the work area where they work, stressful and challenging work, its stress creates a stressful environment for the concerned person and the family as well.
Impact on physical health: Mental health also has a negative impact on physical health. High blood pressure, diabetes and many other non-communicable diseases appear due to sluggishness, laziness, nausea, digestive problems and prolonged stress.
Decline in intellectual capacity: The brain manages intellectual skills such as remembering, thinking, and problem solving. Especially the negative emotions received from the social environment have made a big place in the mind. As negative emotions build up, the brain becomes difficult to manage and unable to execute intellectual skills. If such a condition progresses, it develops into a mental illness.
Suicide: Due to mental health, there is a possibility of committing inhumane and criminal acts such as having thoughts of suicide, killing on oneself.
Due to the lack of mental health literacy in Nepal, there are various types of stigma, discrimination, stigma, superstition and misconceptions about mental health. Research has also proven that Dhamijhankri's help in solving mental problems is an alternative form of psychotherapy or psychotherapy in a multicultural environment.
Even if the parents know their situation and act as follows, stress can be managed and they can be mentally healthy. If you are unable to control yourself, you should contact psychosocial counselors in each village and municipality or contact nearby hospitals for treatment.
Actions to take if you feel stressed
Take a long long breath about 10 times and feel the breath.
Close your eyes and slowly count to 10.
Do 10, 15 reps of jumping, running legs.
Inhale for a count of 1 to 4, hold for a count of 1 to 8 and slowly exhale for a count of 1 to 16 and experience the breath.
Stare at any object for about 10, 15 minutes.
Cry out, shout loudly or cry out loud because of sadness, worry, pain caused by others.
Straighten your head and make an English figure of eight with the pupils of your eyes. Do this action 10 times.
Tell your family, neighborhood or friends to a trusted person and seek advice.
Stress can be eliminated easily by you. The remedy is to develop understanding in oneself. There is no use in stressing about what is not in your hands. Mentally developing negative thinking, spreading negative energy, being interested in negative things and not being able to let go are the causes of stress. We cannot control the words and behavior of others but we can protect ourselves from them. This is the right way to manage yourself.
The negative energy generated in the body also affects the body's hormones and they lead to unhappiness, laziness, insomnia and impatience. On the contrary, if positive energy is generated in the body, the hormones of happiness, joy, peace and love will be developed in the body. Running behind unlimited desires is another cause of stress, if we are not behind our desires, what our needs are, if we can understand whether those needs are fulfilled or not, then stress cannot arise.
