Although mental health is considered as an integral part of health, not much work has been done to promote it at the individual and community level. When understood in general language, mental health can be understood as the health of thoughts and behavior in the mind. A mentally healthy person can lead a productive and progressive life by facing various situations in order to live his daily life by recognizing his abilities.

Head injuries, malnutrition, drug addiction, bad experiences in life, accidents, torture, trauma, violence etc. affect the emotions, thinking and behavior of the mind. If such effects persist for more than two weeks, it can be said that there is a mental health problem.


Although it is possible to treat mental health problems, there is a tendency to hide the problem or seek wrong treatment due to ignorance, stigma, discrimination and stigma towards it.

1. Myth: Mental health problems only happen to a small number of people.

2. Myth: People with mental health problems cannot work.

Reality: People with mental health problems can and do work like other people if given the opportunity and support. People can live a normal and independent life after psychiatric and psychological treatment in severe mental problems.


3. Myth: People with mental health problems are violent.

Reality: People with mental health problems are themselves at risk of violence and assault. According to the World Health Organization, 9 out of every 10 people with mental health problems experience some form of human rights abuse.

Myth: Children and adolescents do not have mental health problems.

Reality: More than 50 percent of mental health problems begin before the age of 14. 1 out of every 5 children and adolescents have some kind of mental health problem. (World Health Organization)



5. Myth: Mental health problems are caused by personal weaknesses.

Reality: Many factors play a role in the development of mental health problems. Mental health problems can develop due to biological, environmental, social and psychological reasons.



6. Delusion: A mental health problem is pretended or pretended not to be a problem.

Reality: According to research, mental problems are also health problems, just like physical problems.



7. Myth: We cannot help people with mental health problems.

Reality: Everyone can help protect, respect and treat people with mental health problems. Just listening carefully to a person with a problem can help such a person a lot.



8. Myth: Mental health problems only happen to people with poor economic conditions.

Reality: Mental health problems can happen to people of any financial status.

Most mental problems can be effectively managed if timely help is provided. Family, friends and neighbors can also provide such support. According to the need, the help of counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists can be taken or it is necessary to take them.



To stay mentally healthy, you can pay attention to or do the following things:



Develop the habit of opening up or talking to friends, relatives or people you like.



Regular exercise and rest.



Eat nutritious and balanced food.



Take time for yourself or try not to be too stressed.



Practicing yoga and relaxation.



Try to participate in fun activities.



Taking out plenty of time for family from a busy and stressful lifestyle.



Develop the habit of helping or participating in household chores.



Constantly trying to stay in touch with friends or relatives.
